Belvédère Sonore version pour la radio, est la suite du projet éponyme qui prende lieu sur le territoire de la ville de Genève. Cette version radiophonique, mais bien évidemment aussi la version Promenade Sonore, veulent mettre en évidence l’importance de connaître les textures, les rythmes et les saveurs du monde que nous avons inventé et qui nous entourent. L’objectif est celui d’une éducation à la poésie et à d’une fusion synesthétique des sens pour nous aider à entendre ce que l’on voit!

Landscapes to listen, music to see, œuvres to reinvent. More than a guide with musical commentaries or a new cultural outreach experience, the Belvédères Sonores is an artistic re-creation. Stemming from a specific choice of public works of art that are fully-immersed in their natural décor and coupled with sounds expressly designed by local musicians, the BS propose augmented strolls in an attempt to skew the perception of art, music and landscaping. Once the application has been downloaded the smartphone-equipped user (ideally with headphones) will be able to walk from site to site and dive, the time of a soundtrack, within the aura of a sculpture and of the place of the city that shelters it.

It was and remains necessary to see the radio not only as a medium but also as art.
Radio art is discordant with radio and music in their traditional perceptions. Music in particular, in its classical diffusion, does not adapt efficiently to the radio medium, because it is not designed for this medium and does not take consideration of its specificity and its paradigms.

Radio should avoid dealing with finite temporal objects with a beginning, a middle and an end, as to avoid to have comprehensible form and avoid the way of predictable appearance. That means having an open acoustic final result and welcoming the idea of losing the control. Considering that we never know how the music is heard, every radio listeners’ ear perceives a different piece and creates its final version from a framework of possibilities.

This restriction has always shaped this kind of art more than could the restriction of the five staves from the musical notation storage medium ever define composition. And we believe that all this paradigms have to be considered while creating music for radio. From the side of the broadcaster and the side of the listeners.

Project for an interactive archive of street music
Calle record is an online archive project that intends to develop, through a multimedia platform, the recording, documentation and accessibility of music played in public spaces
The goal is to create the biggest possible archive of musical heritage. This information makes it possible to analyze the cultural and political influences (migration influxes, colonization) as well as centuries-old traditions, right from the birth of street music
Aside from the musical analyses, Calle Record is particularly interested in the contexts in which these performances take place
The place of recording, its resonances, its contamination with the sounds of everyday life are a key factor. These elements often give life to new and unique compositions, sometimes accidentally, which can be surprisingly innovative and which above all contextualize the music in a specific geographical, political, social and historical moment.

Zonoff is also a tape music label specialized in unconventional music, sound poetry and artists’ “records”. Energies have been gathered here to give life to an independent, non-profit cultural enterprise: all revenues from sales are reinvested in future projects. One of the purposes of publications is to publish both archival and unpublished documents from artists with whom Zonoff collaborated. Each production is unique and includes a special design and packaging made by hand and in limited quantities.
